Why are Light Stabilizers required?

◆UV radiation breaksdown the chemical bonds in polymers, resulting in photo degradation.Thisleads to cracks, colourchangeand loss of physical properties such as tensile strength, elongations and homogeneity.

◆ Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers protect polymers from degradation due to UV radiation and helpsto retain thepolymer properties.

◆ Generally, HALSprovide excellent resistance to photo degradation and can be synergistically used with UV Absorbers and Antioxidants to improve light and heat resistance of polymers.

 

How do Light Stabilizerswork?

◆ HALS are efficient scavengers and function by inhibiting degradation of polymers that have already formed free radicals. They do not absorb UV radiation, but act to inhibit degradation of the polymer. They slow down thephotochemically initiated degradation reactions.HALS reaction is cyclic, and very effective for materials with a high surface area such as films and tapes.

 

Where can Light Stabilizers be used?

The dosage depends upon various factors and ranges between 0.1% to 1% in the final product.
